Sam Reinhart - Two points against Boston Reinhart scored a shorthanded goal and added an even-strength assist in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Bruins.
Impact Both points came in the first period as the Panthers seized an early 4-1 lead. Reinhart is coming off a career-best campaign in 2023-24, amassing 57 goals and 94 points in the regular season, and he had plenty of special-teams success with 27 power-play tallies and five shorties. The 28-year-old led all Florida skaters in PP time (7:49) and all forwards in time on the penalty kill (3:10) Tuesday, and he should get every opportunity to do damage in odd-man situations again this season.

Impact The 28-year-old potted the first goal of the season for Florida, tapping a loose puck past Joonas Korpisalo just 6:27 into the first period. Bennett then struck again in the first frame, chipping a rebound off the post inside the final minute. He's been a steady contributor during his three full seasons with the Panthers, producing between 40 and 49 points in each campaign and recording a career-high 100 PIM and 173 hits in 2023-24, and he had a strong all-around performance Tuesday with four shots, two blocked shots, two hits, two PIM and a plus-3 rating on his ledger.

Impact The Panthers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first period and were comfortably ahead 6-2 with four minutes left in the third, so Bobrovsky's focus may have wavered just a bit before the final horn. It's still a win in the books to begin Florida's Stanley Cup defense, and the 36-year-old figures to see a heavy workload again between the pipes in 2024-25, at least until Spencer Knight demonstrates he's ready for regular NHL action.

Carter Verhaeghe - Staying in Florida long-term Verhaeghe signed an eight-year, $56 million contract extension with the Panthers on Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Impact Verhaeghe is committed to the Panthers through the 2032-33 season with this new deal. The 29-year-old was one of seven Panthers skaters to fail to register a point in Tuesday's 6-4 season-opening win over the Bruins. Verhaeghe will likely fill a top-six role for a majority of his new deal, giving him significant fantasy value in formats that reward scoring. He has topped the 70-point mark in each of the last two years.
