Reinhart's hat trick leads the way as Panthers handle Avalanche 8-4

Cale Makar - Two-point effort SaturdayMakar scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Panthers.

ImpactThe Avalanche fell behind 3-0 in the first period, but Makar kicked off a second-period surge that tied the game with a wicked shot from the faceoff dot to the left of Sergei Bobrovsky. Florida dominated again in the third, however. Since returning Makar from a lower-body injury in late December, Makar has four multi-point performances in eight games en route to a goal and 10 points.

Mikko Rantanen - Two helpers against FloridaRantanen picked up two assists, one on the power play, in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Panthers.

ImpactBoth helpers came in the second period as the Avs erased an early 3-0 deficit, only to fall apart again in the third. Rantanen extended his point streak to four games, and he's been hot for nearly a month now, recording eight goals and 19 points over the last 13 contests.

Valeri Nichushkin - Two-point effort SaturdayNichushkin scored a power-play goal and added an even-strength assist in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Panthers.

ImpactHe also chipped in a team-high six shots on net along with two blocked shots, a hit and a minus-2 rating. Both of Nichushkin's points came in the second period as the Avs made an initial comeback from an early 3-0 deficit, but the team collapsed in the third. The 28-year-old has three multi-point performances in the last four games, continuing a hot streak that has seen Nichushkin pile up 10 goals and 19 points in the last 13 contests.

Alexandar Georgiev - Takes loss in reliefGeorgiev stopped 12 of 15 shots after replacing Ivan Prosvetov midway through the second period to take the loss Saturday as the Avalanche fell 8-4 to the Panthers.

ImpactNeither Colorado goalie had much luck slowing down the Florida offense. Georgiev was supposed to be getting his first game off since Dec. 16, and the regulation loss snapped a 6-0-1 streak for the Avs' starting netminder. His heavy workload may be wearing him down, however, as over his last three outings Georgiev has given up 11 goals on only 69 shots.

Ivan Prosvetov - Gets hook against FloridaProsvetov allowed four goals on 13 shots before being replaced by Alexandar Georgiev midway through the second period of Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Panthers.

ImpactFlorida jumped out to a 3-0 lead before eight minutes had elapsed in the first period, but Colorado rallied to tie it with a hot start to begin the second. When Prosvetov gave up a fairly soft goal from distance to flip the momentum back toward the Panthers though, the 24-year-old got the hook. It was his first action since Dec. 16, as Georgiev had started every game in between, and Prosvetov's performance isn't likely to encourage coach Jared Bednar to give him more work. On the season, he's 4-3-1 in 11 outings with a 3.16 GAA and .895 save percentage.

Carter Verhaeghe - Three points SaturdayVerhaeghe scored two goals and added an assist in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Avalanche.

ImpactThe Panthers' offense was roaring, and Verhaeghe potted his team's first and last tallies of the day. The 28-year-old has found the back of the net and posted multi-point performances in five straight games, and since the beginning of December he's erupted for 12 goals and 21 points in 16 contests.

Aleksander Barkov - Four helpers in big winBarkov notched four assists, one on the power play, in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Avalanche.

ImpactThe big center had a helper in every period, including one on Sam Reinhart's game-winner in the third that gave Barkov's linemate a hat trick. While he hasn't scored a goal in nine straight games, Barkov has four multi-point performances in the last seven contests, a stretch in which he's amassed 13 assists.
