Headed to AHL Romanov will report to the AHL after being cut by the Sharks on Sunday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

Impact Romanov will now have a chance to develop his game with AHL San Jose in the coming campaign. The 24-year-old will be hard-pressed to earn time in the NHL this season with a crowded depth chart ahead of him. The Russian netminder appeared in two contests for the Sharks in 2023-24, making 29 saves on 30 shots, good for a .967 save percentage and a 1.01 GAA.

Guarding cage Thursday Romanov will defend the road crease versus the Ducks on Thursday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

Impact Romanov played in two NHL games last season in which he faced 30 shots, making 29 saves without registering a win. Even if Romanov hangs around training camp a little longer, he is not expected to make the Sharks' Opening Night roster, especially with three NHL-caliber backstops ahead of him on the depth chart.

It's an encouraging, albeit unconventional start to the 24-year-old netminder's career. Romanov went 9-9-8 with a .904 save percentage with AHL San Jose after coming over from the KHL prior to the season.

Impact Edmonton eased up after chasing Cooley from the game, though Romanov also put in a solid effort. The 24-year-old had a 3.14 GAA and a .904 save percentage over 29 AHL outings, so fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting much from him during his first taste of the NHL. It's unclear if Romanov will be given his first NHL start Thursday in Calgary.
