Canes Place Joakim Ryan On Waivers | Carolina Hurricanes Defenseman will be assigned to AHL’s Chicago if he clears
Placed on waivers Ryan was placed on waivers Tuesday for the purpose of reassignment to the AHL, according to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
Impact Ryan was dealing with an undisclosed injury and started the season on the injured non-roster list. The 31-year-old has moved past his injury and will head to AHL Chicago if he clears waivers. Ryan last appeared in the NHL during the 2020-21 campaign with Carolina.

Impact Ryan has been away from the team in recent days due to an unspecified injury, and he'll be unavailable for the start of the regular season. It's not yet clear when he's expected to return to full health, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him sent to the minors once he moves past his injury.

Impact Ryan has compiled 17 goals and 47 assists in 156 regular-season contests for the Malmo Redhawks of the SHL across the past three campaigns. The 31-year-old defender has four goals and 24 points in 145 career NHL appearances. Ryan will compete for a depth spot with the Hurricanes out of training camp but could spend most of 2024-25 in the minors.
