Impact Staal's first goal broke a 2-2 tie in the third period while his second came almost 10 minutes later into an empty net. He hadn't lit the lamp since March 9, which was also a two-goal performance. Overall, the 32-year-old center is still on his best scoring pace since donning a Hurricanes sweater, with 28 points in 36 games.

Two assists in win Staal registered a pair of assists, six hits, two shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Blackhawks.

Impact Staal had a hand in both of Warren Foegele's goals in the contest. With four assists in his last five games, Staal has shown a generous side, although his goal drought extended to 10 contests. The Ontario native is up to 26 points (10 goals, 16 helpers), 63 shots on net, 75 hits and a plus-3 rating in 33 outings.

Impact Staal has been thriving as the Canes' No. 2 center behind Sebastian Aho this season. He now has 24 points (10G, 14A) in 31 games, which puts him on pace to crack the 40-point plateau. The last time Staal topped 40 points was the 2016-17 season, and he needed 79 games to do it. Credit his own improved play, plus a vastly improved supporting cast as the reason for Staal's increased productivity this year.
