Caleb Jones - On Opening Night roster Jones is one of eight Los Angeles defensemen to make the Opening Night roster ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
Impact Jones signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Kings in July. The 27-year-old will not be a lineup regular for Los Angeles, so he could see time with AHL Ontario throughout the season. The left-shot blueliner registered five assists in 25 regular-season contests with Colorado in 2023-24.

Arthur Kaliyev - Shifts to IR Kaliyev (collarbone) was put on injured reserve Sunday.
Impact Kaliyev suffered a fractured clavicle during an early training camp scrimmage. A timeline for his return has not been provided, but he is out indefinitely. Kaliyev registered seven goals, 15 points, 101 shots on net and 33 hits over 51 games in the 2023-24 regular season. Akil Thomas could be in the lineup for Opening Night against Buffalo on Thursday due to Kaliyev's absence.

Drew Doughty - Goes on injured reserve Doughty (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Sunday.
Impact Doughty is considered month-to-month following ankle surgery. He sustained a fracture during the preseason, and an exact timeline for his recovery remains unclear. The 35-year-old defender accumulated 15 goals, 50 points, 135 shots on net, 142 blocked shots and 109 hits in 82 games in the 2023-24 regular season. Jordan Spence, Kyle Burroughs and Brandt Clarke could see increased roles during Doughty's absence.

Pheonix Copley - Put on waivers Copley was placed on waivers Sunday for assignment to AHL Ontario.
Impact Copley posted a 6-4-1 record with a 2.48 GAA and a .913 save percentage in 11 minor-league outings during the 2023-24 regular season. His year was cut short due to ACL surgery, but he is healthy now and poised to spend most of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

Jack Studnicka - Ticketed for AHL Studnicka was waived Sunday to send him to AHL Ontario.
Impact Studnicka didn't record a point in 17 appearances with the Sharks during the 2023-24 regular season. He will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

Samuel Fagemo - Waived for AHL demotion Fagemo was placed on waivers Sunday to be assigned to AHL Ontario.
Impact Fagemo amassed 43 goals and 62 points in 50 regular-season contests with AHL Ontario in 2023-24. He could be a call-up option for the Kings this campaign but might spend most of the year in the minors.

Trevor Moore - Two-point effort Saturday Moore scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's preseason loss to the Panthers.
Impact The 29-year-old had a hand in both Los Angeles tallies on the night, helping to set up Phillip Danault in the first period before lighting the lamp himself in the third. Moore is coming off a career-best campaign in 2023-24, racking up 31 goals and 57 points in 82 regular-season contests, but he'll have a hard time repeating those numbers without consistent top-six shifts.

Darcy Kuemper - Downed by Panthers Kuemper stopped 11 of 14 shots during Saturday's preseason loss to the Panthers.
Impact Two power-play goals in the first period put the Kings in a hole they couldn't climb out of, but it's encouraging that the team was still stingy in allowing shots despite the absence of Drew Doughty (ankle) on the blue line. Kuemper is coming off a disappointing two-year run as a Capital that saw him produce a 3.03 GAA and .902 save percentage in 90 games, but the 34-year-old netminder should be able to rebound behind a tighter defensive scheme with the Kings.

Darcy Kuemper - Starting in Quebec Kuemper will start in goal versus the Panthers in an exhibition game in Quebec City, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.
Impact Kuemper has been sharp in the preseason, winning both of his previous starts while allowing just one goal on 35 shots. The 34-year-old's strong preseason has positioned him well to begin the year as the Kings' top goalie, though the absence of Drew Doughty (ankle) could see the team's defensive system a little leakier than normal.

Taylor Ward - Placed on waivers Friday Ward was placed on waivers by the Kings on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Impact Ward signed a two-way deal with Los Angeles in May and should head to the minors if he goes unclaimed on waivers. The 26-year-old hasn't yet made his NHL debut, and he'll likely spend most, if not all, of this year in the minors.

Drew Doughty - Undergoes surgery Doughty, as previously announced, had surgery to repair his fractured ankle and is considered month-to-month, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports Friday.
Impact Doughty's status remains unchanged but he at least has now had his procedure and should be on the road to recovery. At this point, it wouldn't be surprising to see Doughty out of action until the calendar turns to 2025, though the team hasn't provided a specific recovery timeline. Without Doughty on the blue line, Brandt Clarke should see increased minutes in addition to getting power-play opportunities. Doughty figures to be designated for long-term injured reserve once the season opens.

David Rittich - Ready to roll as backup Rittich made 13 saves in a 4-1 win over Boston on Thursday.
Impact The 32-year-old's best season came in 2018-19 when he went 27-9-5 with a 2.61 GAA and .911 save percentage in 42 starts for Calgary. Rittich has been in a back-up role since 2020-21, seeing time with five teams (Calgary, Toronto, Nashville, Winnipeg and now Los Angeles) over the last four years. He will play second fiddle this season to fellow newcomer Darcy Kuemper, but will deliver strong results inside the structure of one of the NHL's best team defenses.

Quinton Byfield - Shift to center leads to success Byfield netted a hat trick Thursday in a 4-1 preseason win over Boston.
Impact Byfield has been playing at center this preseason and is showing the NHL why he was drafted second overall (2020). On Thursday, the big man scored twice in 25 seconds in the second period. The first came on a beautiful one-timer on a 2-on-1 break with Kevin Fiala, and then Byfield smacked in a rebound from in tight. His third goal came on the power play in the third. Byfield has looked comfortable at pivot this season and seems to have chemistry with newcomer Warren Foegele and veteran Kevin Fiala. He hopes to build on his 20 goals and 35 assists from last year.

David Rittich - Starting Thursday Rittich will defend the home crease versus the Bruins on Thursday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.
Impact The two teams are in Quebec City for the exhibition contest. Rittich had a solid 2023-24 campaign, going 13-6-2 with a 2.15 GAA and a .921 save percentage in 24 regular-season games with the Kings as the backup to Cam Talbot. Talbot has moved on to Detroit, with LA acquiring Darcy Kuemper in the offseason, as their presumptive No. 1 goaltender this season.

Jacob Moverare - Waived Tuesday Moverare was put on waivers Tuesday for the purpose of assignment to AHL Ontario.
Impact Moverare generated two goals and 16 assists in 34 regular-season contests for AHL Ontario in 2023-24. He also had one goal and 23 blocked shots in 24 NHL outings with the Kings during the 2023-24 regular season. If Moverare is not claimed by another team, he may see more playing time with LA in the upcoming campaign.
