Impact Subban's demotion suggests Elvis Merzlikins (lower body) may end up being available for Tuesday's season finale against Carolina. Subban has appeared in just one NHL contest this year -- he surrendered three goals on 35 shots en route to a 3-0 loss to the Hurricanes on April 7.

Losses season debut Subban picked up the loss in his NHL season debut in Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Carolina, giving up three goals on 35 shots.

Impact Subban last played in the NHL back during the 2021-22 campaign when he made four appearances for the Sabres. Once Elvis Merzlikins (lower body) or Daniil Tarasov (upper body) is cleared to return, Subban will likely be shipped back to the minors where he is sporting a 3.12 GAA and .901 save percentage in 35 appearances for the Monsters and Thunderbirds.

The 30-year-old Subban has appeared in 86 career NHL contests, posting a 36-33-9 record with a 3.10 GAA and an .898 save percentage. Carolina ranks eighth in the league this campaign with 3.35 goals per contest.

Impact Subban posted a 20-14-5 record with a 2.94 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 39 games with AHL Rochester last season. Assuming he isn't claimed, the 29-year-old netminder will report to AHL Springfield. As expected, Joel Hofer will enter the 2023-24 campaign as the Blues' backup goalie behind Jordan Binnington.

Impact Subban went 20-14-5 with a 2.94 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 39 regular-season appearances with AHL Rochester last season. He also posted a mark of 8-6 with a 2.56 GAA and a .916 save percentage during the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs. Subban will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2023-24 campaign in the minors.
