Sam Montembeault - No support in lossMontembeault stopped 25 of 27 shots in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Wild.
ImpactMontembeault played well but a barely existent offense offered little support for the goalie. Montreal had just two first-period shots on net and finished with 19. Montembeault dropped to 4-8-1 with a 3.29 goals-against average and .893 save percentage, which normally might cost a No. 1 goalie his job but not in Montreal. Backup Cayden Primeau (4.68 GAA, .845 save percentage) is not a reliable option at this point. Montembeault will likely guard the net Saturday, when the Canadiens return home to face the Blue Jackets.

Frederick Gaudreau - Restarts point streakGaudreau had an assist, one shot on net and two blocks in Thursday's 3-0 win over Montreal.
ImpactGaudreau, who saw a six-game point streak snapped last Sunday, worked hard to begin a new one. He fought in the corner for a loose puck in Montreal's end and eventually directed it to Kirill Kaprizov for an empty-net tally. The assist was Gaudreau's seventh in the last seven appearances.

Declan Chisholm - Logs point in returnChisholm collected a power-play assist along with two shots on net, two blocks and one hit in Thursday's 3-0 win over Montreal.
ImpactChisholm's not usually on the power play, but the Wild lost a couple of top-six forwards and power-play regulars Thursday. The defenseman picked up a secondary helper with four seconds remaining on a four-minute double minor. Chisholm was a healthy scratch against the Blackhawks last Sunday but returned to the lineup, as Jonas Brodin (undisclosed) was a no-go Thursday. Chisholm has four assists, nine shots, six blocks, five hits and even through 11 outings.

Jared Spurgeon - Dishes power-play assist in winSpurgeon had a power-play assist, one shot on net and three blocked shots in Thursday's 3-0 win over Montreal.
ImpactSpurgeon simply slid a puck to Marco Rossi, who changed his angle slightly and went far side past Sam Montembeault midway through the third period. Spurgeon, who missed six games with a lower-body injury in October, is not quite at his normal TOI. The 34-year-old defenseman, who averaged 23:20 of ice time per game in 2023-24, is averaging 19:35 TOI since returning to action seven games ago.

Marcus Johansson - Breaks pointless runJohansson had an assist, two shots on net and one hit in Thursday's 3-0 win over Montreal.
ImpactJohansson was the middle skater in a pretty passing sequence that began with Kirill Kaprizov and ended with Matt Boldy's 10th goal of the season. The assist snapped a nine-game pointless stretch, during which Johansson had just 10 shots on net. One might assume skating on the second line with Boldy would prevent nine-game pointless runs, but it apparently took a shift with Kaprizov to make it back to the scoresheet. Both Joel Eriksson Ek and Mats Zuccarello left the game with a lower-body injuries, which could shake up the top-six and power-play units when Minnesota hosts Dallas on Saturday.
