The 22-year-old winger has added 10 shots on net, 13 hits and a minus-4 rating over five contests. Neighbours is in a position to succeed on the Blues' second line, but regression was expected after he shot 18.6 percent in a 27-goal, 38-point effort over 77 regular-season outings last year.

The 24-year-old helped his own cause, providing the secondary assist on Jake Neighbours' game-winning tally at 2:04 of overtime. Hofer has allowed four goals on 63 shots so far. If he continues to play well, he could work his way into a near-even split of playing time with Jordan Binnington, who has lost two of his three outings this season.

ImpactSorokin was stellar throughout the game, but Joel Hofer was just a little better.
