Jack Hughes - Supplies only offense in lossHughes scored his 18th goal of the season on a game-high 10 shots on net in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Rangers.
ImpactThe 22-year-old also chipped in a blocked shot and a plus-1 rating, impressive considering the final score. Hughes spoiled Igor Shesterkin's shutout bid with a little over two minutes left in the third period, but it was about the only highlight for the Devils on the night. Hughes needed a couple games to shake off the rust after missing most of January and the first game after the All-Star break due to an upper-body injury, but over the last six contests he's racked up three goals and six points while putting 41 shots on net.

Nico Daws - Burned by BlueshirtsDaws made 13 saves in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Rangers.
ImpactThe poor numbers for Daws can be laid squarely at the feet of a Devils' defense that committed multiple turnovers and mental errors in its own zone, but that doesn't change the fact that the 23-year-old has given up 11 goals on only 44 shots over the last two games. The pressure is mounting on New Jersey to make a splash at the trade deadline and acquire a frontline goalie, but in the short term Daws may need a breather after starting six straight games and going 3-3-0 with a 3.19 GAA and .895 save percentage.

Vincent Trocheck - Two points in JerseyTrocheck produced a goal and an assist in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Devils.
ImpactAfter setting up Alexis Lafreniere for the Rangers' fourth goal late in the second period, Trocheck potted his team's fifth in the third, tapping in a slick feed from Artemi Panarin on a two-on-one break. Trocheck has a four-game point streak going as that trio continues to gel on a line together, and Thursday's tally was his 20th of the season -- the sixth time in his career the 30-year-old has reached that plateau.
