Erik Karlsson - Day-to-day to open camp Karlsson was labeled day-to-day with an upper-body injury on the first day of Penguins' training camp Wednesday, Michelle Crechiolo of the Penguins' official site reports.
Impact Karlsson was no doubt hoping for a bounce-back year after managing just 56 points last season, well off his Norris Trophy pace the year prior in which he racked up 101 points. The addition of coach David Quinn is expected to unlock Karlsson's potential, though that's far from guaranteed. In regard to his injury, the fact that the team classified it as day-to-day should be an indication that Karlsson will be ready for Opening Night against the Rangers on Oct. 9 even if he does miss some preseason action.

Impact Gauthier wasn't going to be making the Penguins' Opening Night roster even without his undisclosed injury, so this news should have little impact on fantasy players. Still, the 23-year-old backstop may be one to watch for dynasty managers after he went 24-16-2 in 42 games for ECHL Wheeling last season while recording a 2.23 GAA and .923 save percentage.

John Ludvig - Good to go Ludvig (wrist) will be ready for the beginning of training camp, the team announced Tuesday.
Impact Ludvig accounted for three goals, five points, 47 PIM, 72 hits and 33 blocked shots in 33 regular-season appearances in 2023-24. He will compete for a depth spot on the blue line of the Penguins after undergoing wrist surgery in late April.

Kris Letang - Set for 2024-25 campaign Letang (finger) has been cleared for training camp, per Pittsburgh's training camp roster Tuesday.
Impact Letang didn't let his finger injury stop him from playing in all 82 games last year in which he generated 10 goals and 41 assists. With the addition of Erik Karlsson, the 37-year-old Letang recorded a meager five power-play units, tied for his lowest point total with the man advantage for his career. Assuming Pittsburgh's power play improves this season -- it would be hard-pressed to get worse -- Letang should inherently see his scoring productivity creep back up this year.

Emil Bemstrom - Ready to rock Bemstrom (concussion) will be good to go for the start of training camp, the team announced Tuesday.
Impact Bemstrom registered eight goals and eight assists in 56 games between Columbus and Pittsburgh before sitting out the Penguins' regular-season finale. With a clean bill of health, he will compete for a bottom-six spot with the team during camp.

Impact Graves faced the ire of Penguins fans last season after he managed just 14 points in 70 contests despite his $4.5 million cap hit and a contract that runs through the 2028-29 campaign. If he continues to struggle this year, he could find himself relegated to the press box in favor of Sebastian Aho, Ryan Shea or Owen Pickering.

The team added a wealth of depth forwards in the offseason, meaning Acciari if far from a lock for the lineup on a nightly basis and will have to hold off the likes of Anthony Beauvillier and Valtteri Puustinen, to name a few, for a bottom-six role.
