It will be hard to trust him to produce points until he gets more opportunities.

ImpactMontreal grabbed a 3-1 lead late in the first period, but two power-play tallies by Pittsburgh in the second period tied it up and eventually force a wild shootout session that saw the first four skaters find the back of the net before Montembeault and Alex Nedeljkovic could regain their footing. Montembeault has just one regulation loss in his last five starts, going 3-1-1 with a 2.77 GAA and .916 save percentage while Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau saw three starts each during that time. Montembeault is nominally the No. 1 netminder for Montreal, but unless the team makes a trade, he won't see enough work to be useful in a lot of fantasy formats.

ImpactBoth helpers came in the second period as the Penguins rallied from an early 3-1 deficit. Karlsson broke out of an 11-game slump in the process that had seen him record just one goal and two points, with zero points on the power play, and on the season the streaky blueliner has six tallies and 21 points through 28 contests.

ImpactHe also beat Sam Montembeault in a wild shootout that ended up going 12 rounds. It's Crosby's first multi-point effort since Nov. 18, snapping a lukewarm stretch in between during which he'd managed only three goals and six points in 11 games. With Wednesday's production, the future Hall of Famer is now tied with Mark Recchi at 1,533 career points, 13th on the all-time list. Next up in 12th is Joe Thornton at 1,539, and if Crosby stays healthy the rest of the season, 10th place (Phil Esposito at 1,590 points) isn't out of reach.

ImpactPezzetta and his fourth-line mates had a strong start, being on ice for Montreal's first two goals during the first period. That unit dogged the Penguins into a turnover that produced David Savard's unassisted marker, then he and Jesse Ylonen assisted on Jayden Struble's tally.
