ImpactVarlamov is considered day-to-day and may not have started even if healthy enough to play, as Ilya Sorokin has played the majority of the games this season. Still, Varlamov has conceded 10 goals on 65 shots (.846 save percentage) in his last two contests, which could have opened the door for Varlamov to get some added minutes.

ImpactMayfield has been out of action since Dec. 11 and has missed the last seven games. He has practiced the last two days and could return to the lineup as early as Sunday in Pittsburgh. Mayfield has four assists, 58 blocked shots and 24 hits in 20 games.

ImpactLittle went right for the Islanders on Wednesday, but Varlamov at least wasn't too busy over the final 20 minutes. The veteran netminder had given up at least three goals in nine straight starts prior to this relief appearance, and over that stretch he's posted a 3.31 GAA and .899 save percentage, albeit with a 4-3-2 record.
