Garners helper Sunday Gagner notched an assist in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Devils.

Impact Gagner snapped a three-game drought when he set up Derek Ryan on the opening goal late in the first period. The 34-year-old Gagner has done fairly well while picking up bottom-six minutes in a part-time role for the Oilers this season. He has three goals, two assists, 29 shots on net and an even plus-minus rating through 13 appearances. Gagner's place in the lineup is likely safe until Dylan Holloway (lower body) returns, which is expected in roughly two weeks.

Impact Gagner was scratched in the last four games, but he got back into the lineup with Zach Hyman (illness) out. The goal was Gagner's first point since Nov. 6. The 34-year-old forward has managed four points, 20 shots on net, eight hits, six blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating over nine appearances, though he's unlikely to see much more than bottom-six usage when he plays.

Impact Gagner set up a Mattias Ekholm tally at 6:42 of the first period. With three points in as many games since signing to rejoin the Oilers at the start of November, Gagner has at least tried to help the team amid its early struggles. He's added eight shots on net, five hits and a plus-2 rating while seeing middle-six minutes and some power-play time. Gagner has some experience as a power-play specialist, but playing on the second unit in Edmonton is unlikely to provide much of a meaningful boost to his production.

Gagner would also pick up five shots and three minutes in 13:00 TOI. That would be the closest the Oilers would get as they were unable to beat Scott Wedgewood again to even the score at 4-4. With his strong performance Thursday, Gagner could start to see himself in the lineup more often than not as the Oilers look to dig themselves out of their early season struggles.
