Expected starter for Thursday Montembeault will start on the road against Florida on Thursday.

Impact Montembeault might have a tough time against the Panthers, who have won 12 of their last 14 games. It doesn't help that Montembeault has been underwhelming this campaign with a 13-10-4 record, 3.16 GAA and .904 save percentage in 28 outings. On the bright side, the goaltender was great against Arizona on Tuesday, saving 36 of 38 shots en route to a 4-2 victory.

Back in win column Montembeault turned aside 36 shots in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Coyotes.

Impact Montreal was out-shot 38-21 on the night, but Montembeault made sure the early lead his team grabbed was able to hold up. The 27-year-old netminder snapped a three-start losing streak with the performance, a stretch in which he'd surrendered 13 goals on 92 shots, but Montembeault doesn't seem to be in any danger of losing his grip on the starting job for the Habs.

In goal Tuesday Montembeault will be between the pipes at home versus the Coyotes on Tuesday.

Impact Montembeault is mired in a three-game losing streak while seeing action in just three of the Habs' last eight contests. The heavy rotation with Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau continues to hurt Montembeault's fantasy value, though Allen has been linked to a move away prior to the March 8 trade deadline. If he can get more minutes, Montembeault should offer increased fantasy value as the No. 1 option.

Impact All of Buffalo's scoring came in the second period, and while Montembeault kept the visitors off the board in the third, Montreal couldn't find an equalizer. The 27-year-old netminder has lost three straight starts, and in 11 outings since the beginning of January he's posted a shaky 3.61 GAA and .901 save percentage to go with a 5-5-1 record.

Impact Montembeault will attempt to rebound after stopping just 24 of 31 shots en route to a 7-4 loss to the Rangers on Thursday. He has a 12-9-4 record, 3.21 GAA and .903 save percentage in 26 outings in 2023-24. The Sabres rank 21st offensively with 2.93 goals per game this year, so they're not the most difficult of adversaries.

Seeing a lot of rubber is nothing new for him, though -- Montembeault has faced 30 or more shots in every outing since the beginning of January, posting a 5-3-1 record in nine starts with a 3.28 GAA and .915 save percentage.

Impact The Canadiens jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period, resulting in opposing goalie Charlie Lindgren being pulled with Montembeault eventually facing Darcy Kuemper in the far net. It seemed to light a fire under the Capitals as they created 34 shots in the final two periods but Montembeault kicked them all away but two. He turned away all five power-play shots sent his way and ended the night with a .949 save percentage. Impact Montembeault will try and make amends for Saturday's poor performance, as he gave up eight goals on 30 shots before he was pulled just before the halfway mark of the third period. Montembeault is 10-7-4 with a 3.11 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Montembeault defeated the Islanders on Dec. 16, turning aside 30 shots in a 5-3 victory.

Impact Montembeault and the Habs want to hit refresh on this game. It was tight in the first, but the Bruins started to push ahead in the second. Then Montembeault could no longer keep the proverbial dam from breaking in the third. The Bruins beat him three times in the final frame before he was saved from the slaughter. Montembeault hasn't been bad since the calendar flipped. He's 3-2-1 over his last six starts and had allowed just seven goals in his previous three starts (1-1-1). Shake it off and move forward, but use caution when you put him in your blue paint.

Facing Bruins Montembeault will defend the visiting crease in Boston on Saturday, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.

Impact Montembeault has been outstanding in his last two starts, going 1-0-1 while giving up only four goals on 71 shots in a win over New Jersey and an overtime loss versus the red-hot Oilers. Montembeault is 10-6-4 with a 2.85 GAA and a .910 save percentage as he has established himself as the Canadiens' No. 1 netminder. He has a tough matchup versus Boston, who are atop the Eastern Conference standings with 63 points.

Hangs on for win Wednesday Montembeault turned aside 28 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Devils.

Impact The 27-year-old netminder took a shutout into the third period, but two quick power-play goals by New Jersey to begin the frame made for a very nervous finish. Cole Caufield was able to find a winner with less than five minutes left to preserve Montembeault's win, however. He's allowed three goals or less in five straight starts to begin January as Montreal's clear No. 1 in the crease, going 3-1-1 with a 2.58 GAA and .930 save percentage, while Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau have combined for only three appearances so far this month.

Starting in New Jersey Montembeault will patrol the road crease versus the Devils on Wednesday, source reports.

Impact Montembeault was excellent in his last start Saturday against the Oilers, turning aside 39 of 41 shots, but he still came away with an overtime loss due to insufficient goal support from his teammates. He'll try to get back in the win column in a road matchup with a New Jersey team that's averaging 3.35 goals per game at home this campaign, 12th in the NHL.

Busy in Saturday's loss Montembeault allowed two goals on 41 shots in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Oilers on Saturday.

Impact Montembeault had to be sharp all night as the Oilers were relentless on the attack. He was up to the task, keeping Edmonton out of the net for two periods despite a ton of pressure on the Canadiens' defense. Leon Draisaitl scored early in the third period and Evan Bouchard eventually ended the game in overtime. Montembeault has lost two of his last four outings but has a save percentage above .900 during that span with 11 total goals allowed. The Canadiens' next game is against Colorado on Monday.

Impact Montembeault had no chance on the first goal. The Sharks forecheck pressured a Hab defender early in the first period. The defender made a blind backhand pass from the right corner into the goalmouth, where Luke Kunin pounced on the puck and scored. Fabian Zetterlund put in a one-timer late in the first and Nikita Okhotiuk notched the winner late in the second frame. It was a tough night for Montembeault, who came in on a two-game winning streak with victories over the elite Rangers and Stars. The Sharks ended a 12-game losing streak with the victory.

He then stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout, including a desperation reach back to swipe away the puck after Mika Zibanejad tried a Forsberg move. Montembeault has won two straight over impressive rivals (Rangers and Stars). He's still part of a three-headed netminding monster, but the hottest hand should win out, at least short term.
