ImpactBlackwood has appeared in five straight matches prior to getting the night off against Buffalo on Monday. In those outings, the 27-year-old backstop went 1-3-0 with a 3.48 GAA and .902 save percentage, including giving up five goals to Ottawa his last time out. With Kaapo Kahkonen putting up subpar numbers, Blackwood will likely continue to see the majority of the starts moving forward.

Casey Mittelstadt - Three points in Monday's winMittelstadt scored the game-winning goal and added two assists, one on the power play, in Monday's 3-0 win over the Sharks.

ImpactThe 25-year-old snuck a puck through traffic and under the arm of Kaapo Kahkonen midway through the second period, and it was all the offensive support Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen would need. Mittelstadt has three multi-point performances in the last six games, and over the last month he's erupted for six goals and 16 points in 14 contests while seeing a regular top-six shift and holding down a spot on the Sabres' top power-play unit.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen - Blanks Sharks on MondayLuukkonen stopped all 28 shots he faced in Monday's 3-0 win over San Jose.

ImpactThe 24-year-old netminder recorded his second shutout of the season, with the first coming against Colorado just before Halloween. Luukkonen has started three straight games and four of the last five, moving past Devon Levi on the Buffalo depth chart, and he's earned the top job by allowing just five goals on 120 shots (.958 save percentage) during those outings. On the season however, he sports a less impressive 2.77 GAA and .906 save percentage to match his 10-9-2 record.

Kaapo Kahkonen - Gets no help in BuffaloKahkonen made 32 saves in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Sabres.

ImpactBuffalo's final goal was scored into an empty net. Kahkonen played well -- he was screened on the first puck that beat him, and the second came on a Sabres power play -- but the Sharks couldn't solve Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in the other crease. Kahkonen has dropped his last eight decisions, going 0-7-1 over that stretch, but his 3.26 GAA and .902 save percentage and still better than Mackenzie Blackwood's 3.86 GAA and .884 save percentage over the same period.
