Jake Bean - Ready to returnBean (shoulder) is expected to play in Wednesday's preseason game against Buffalo.

ImpactBean will make his 2023 exhibition debut after being out with an abductor strain since the beginning of training camp. He produced six points, 16 shots on goal, 21 blocked shots and 13 hits in 14 games with the Blue Jackets last season. Bean is competing for a depth spot on the roster going into the 2023-24 campaign.

Damon Severson - Two helpers MondaySeverson collected two assists in Monday's 5-3 preseason win over the Blues.

ImpactPicked up from the Devils in the offseason to bolster the Blue Jackets' blue line, Severson is in line for major minutes in Columbus, although he'll be behind the likes of Zach Werenski and Adam Boqvist for power-play time. Neither one was in the lineup Monday however, allowing Severson to flash the skills that led to 11 goals and 46 points in 80 games two seasons ago. Expect the 29-year-old to deliver something more like the seven goals and 33 points in 81 games that he produced in 2022-23 during his first campaign with the Jackets.

Alexandre Texier - Strong preseason continuesTexier picked up an assist in Monday's 5-3 preseason win over the Blues.

ImpactIt's been a tough couple years off the ice for the 24-year-old -- Texier played in France last season to be closer to his family -- but he's back in North America and is getting a long look in a top-six role during training camp. Texier scored 11 goals and 20 points in 36 games during his last NHL action in 2021-22, and while he likely won't be a dynamic offensive asset this season even on a top line, he could be defensively responsible glue guy alongside a Patrik Laine or Adam Fantilli.

Johnny Gaudreau - Ices preseason winGaudreau scored an empty-net goal in Monday's 5-3 preseason win over the Blues.

ImpactThe 30-year-old is locked into a top-six role for the Blue Jackets this season and a spot on the top power-play unit while acting as a mentor for young talent like 2023 third overall pick Adam Fantilli. Gaudreau's coming off a somewhat disappointing first campaign in Columbus, managing 21 goals and 74 points in 80 games, but he's proven during his time in Calgary he has a much higher ceiling -- if he has the talent around him to reach it. If the Jackets' other star players like Patrik Laine and Zach Werenski can stay healthy and prospects like Fantilli are ready to make an impact, Gaudreau could shine once again.

ImpactThe 22-year-old netminder played the whole game and gave up only one even-strength goal, but the workload isn't a sign he's making a real push for an NHL job to begin the season. The Blue jackets want Greaves to be their No. 1 at AHL Cleveland, and scooping Spencer Martin off the waiver wire last week was a way to ensure the organization had the depth at goalie to stick to that plan. With Daniil Tarasov (knee) still working his way back into form, however, it might only take one more injury for Greaves to be needed at the NHL level.

The sixth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft seems to be making a strong push in camp for a job though, and after collecting six goals and 38 points in 55 games for Cleveland last season, Jiricek could be ready for the next challenge.
