Ilya Samsonov - Tending twine Saturday Samsonov (illness) was the first goaltender off the ice at morning practice and is expected to get the home start versus Nashville on Saturday, NHL.com's Dave McCarthy reports.
Impact Samsonov now has the opportunity to regain the No. 1 spot in the Toronto cage as Joseph Woll is expected to miss at least a month with a high-ankle sprain. Samsonov has missed the last two games with the illness. He is 4-3-1 with a 3.58 GAA and .878 save percentage. The Predators are averaging 3.23 goals per contest, tied for 15th in the NHL.

Timothy Liljegren - Practicing Saturday Liljegren (ankle) is back at practice Saturday, according to Terry Koshan of The Toronto Sun.
Impact Liljegren is seeing time at the morning skate as the seventh defenseman. Liljegren has been out of action since Nov. 2 when he was injured against the Bruins. This is the first time Liljegren has practiced with the team and is a big step towards his return to the lineup. Liljegren has one assist in 10 games this season.

Joseph Woll - Out week-to-week The Maple Leafs report Woll will be out of action week-to-week with a high-ankle sprain.
Impact Woll was injured Thursday versus the Senators and should be out at least 4-6 weeks, depending on the severity of the sprain. He had been Toronto's No. 1 goaltender, but that will now fall upon Ilya Samsonov's (illness) shoulders. Woll is 8-5-1 with a 2.80 GAA and .916 save percentage this season. Martin Jones is likely to back up Samsonov in the interim.

Bobby McMann - Dropped to AHL McMann was sent down to AHL Toronto on Friday, per CapFriendly.
Impact McMann continues to move between the AHL and NHL levels regularly. He hasn't played at the NHL level since Nov. 30.

Jake McCabe - Three assists in last three games McCabe put up two assists in a 4-3 win over Ottawa on Thursday.
Impact McCabe has only four assists in 17 games this season, but three of those have come in his last three games. We're not convinced this will last -- his best offensive season came last year when he put up a combined 25 points (three goals, 22 assists) between Chicago and Toronto. McCabe was brought into Toronto for his edge and grit, not his offense. There's no need to roster him at this time.

T.J. Brodie - Two apples in win Brodie put up two apples in a 4-3 win over the Senators on Thursday.
Impact Brodie has but five assists on the season (23 games). His value is on the ice, not in the fantasy arena.

William Nylander - Three-game, three-point streak Nylander scored the game-winning goal Thursday in a 4-3 overtime win over Ottawa.
Impact He beat a screened Anton Forsberg with a wrister from the top of the left circle to make it 4-2 at 13:03 of the third. Nylander is back on the scoresheet and back on an offensive run after a three game dry spell. He has a three-game, three-point run on the go. It's modest, but at the same time, Nylander is playing alongside Auston Matthews on line one and that's an absolute license to print money.

Martin Jones - Thrust into duty after injury Jones was thrust into duty Thursday when started Joseph Woll had to be helped off the ice in the third period. He made nine saves in relief.
Impact It was his first action as a Leaf. Jones delivered a 27-13-3 record in Seattle last season, but he did it on the back of a 2.99 GAA and .887 save percentage. The Brick Woll is headed for an MRI and some significant time out, so Jones is about to get the test of his career as a platoon-mate with Ilya Samsonov (illness). Snap him up, but use caution. Jones hasn't put up a save percentage over .900 since 2017-18.
