Impact Garland helped out on an empty-netter by Dakota Joshua in the third period. With six goals and six assists over his last 12 contests, Garland is thriving in a middle-six role. The winger is up to 44 points, 197 shots on net, 53 hits and a plus-20 rating through 80 outings overall. He's right in line with his 46-point campaign from a year ago despite finding less success on the power play.

Joshua remains on the third line but could be in line for in-game promotions on occasion if he's making a noticeable impact.

Impact DeSmith snapped his four-game losing streak with this win, though he didn't have to contend with Connor McDavid (lower body). DeSmith improved to 12-9-6 on the year with a 2.89 GAA and an .895 save percentage through 29 appearances. The Canucks have two games left in the regular season -- Tuesday at home versus the Flames and Thursday in Winnipeg -- and it's possible Thatcher Demko (knee) could be ready for one or both of those games, which would relegate DeSmith to the backup role.
