Capitals' defense slips during loss to Columbus in preseason finale The Capitals scuffled in the third period and didn’t have anyone step forward in the battle for the sixth defenseman’s role.
Joel Edmundson - Skates Saturday Edmundson (hand) skated prior to Saturday's optional practice, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
Impact Edmundson was sporting a non-contact jersey and remains a ways from returning, but his presence on the ice indicates he is progressing in his recovery from hand surgery performed in late September. The 30-year-old faces competition from the likes of Alexander Alexeyev --and possibly even training camp standout Hardy Haman-Aktell --for ice time which could further hinder the rugged blueliner's already limited fantasy upside.

Joe Snively - On waivers Snively was placed on waivers by Washington on Friday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Impact Snively will likely be reassigned to AHL Hershey if he clears. He had nine goals and 27 points in 32 outings with Hershey last season. Snively also contributed two goals and four points in 12 games with Washington.
