Impact Roy looks to be questionable, at best, to play in Tuesday's matchup with Vegas, though he hasn't been officially ruled out at this point. If the blueliner does miss any time, both Trevor van Riemsdyk figures to see the biggest uptick in ice time while Dylan McIlrath could make his 2024-25 season debut on the third pairing. Barring a long-term absence, the 29-year-old Roy should still be capable of putting together a third straight 25-point campaign this year.

Tom Wilson - Buries goal Wilson registered a goal, a minus-1 rating, five shots and three blocked shots during Saturday's 5-3 home loss to the Devils.

Impact Wilson got the Capitals to within a goal in the third period before the Devils salted the win with an empty-netter. The burly winger has show good chemistry with Connor McMichael and Pierre-Luc Dubois on the second line and is well on his way for another well-rounded fantasy campaign.

Alex Ovechkin - Dishes helper Ovechkin tallied an assist and leveled seven hits during Saturday's 5-3 home loss to the Devils.

Impact Shockingly, Ovechkin failed to register a shot in Washington's home opener, but he still managed to find the scoresheet. The 39-year-old may need a little time to shake the rust off after playing sparingly during the preseason, but Ovechkin has plenty of motivation entering his 20th NHL season and sits just 42 goals shy of the all-time goal-scoring record currently held by Wayne Gretzky (894).

Pierre-Luc Dubois - Bags helper in debut Dubois tallied a power-play assist, two shots and a minus-1 rating during Saturday's 5-3 home loss to the Devils.

Impact Dubois notched his first point as a Capital on Washington's opening goal of the game. Traded twice in as many seasons, Dubois knows the pressure is on to show he can still be a difference-maker at the NHL level and the Capitals are bound to be pleased with the blend of speed and skill he showed in Saturday's loss. The 26-year-old could be worth an add for risk-tolerant fantasy managers.

Connor McMichael - Bags apple Saturday McMichael tallied an assist and added three shots during Saturday's 5-3 home loss to the Devils.

Impact McMichael found Tom Wilson in the slot for Washington's third goal, but it was not enough to get the Capitals a win in their home opener. The 23-year-old appears to be locked in to a top-six role alongside Pierre-Luc Dubois and Tom Wilson and will be given every opportunity to top the 18-goals and 33 points he notched in the 2023-24 season.

Impact Strome helped the Capitals get off to a quick start and looked comfortable playing on the top line alongside Alex Ovechkin and newcomer Andrew Mangiapane. The 27-year-old has eclipsed the 60--point barrier each of the last two seasons and should be in line for another solid campaign -- though new arrival Pierre-Luc Dubois could challenge him for top-line duty if Strome struggles at any point.

John Carlson - Notches two points Carlson tallied a power-play goal, an assist and four shots during Saturday's 5-3 home loss to the Devils.

Impact Carlson opened the scoring off the draw of Washington's first power play of the season. The 34-year-old notched 10 goals and 52 points during the 2023-24 season and should be in line to lead Capitals defenders in points again this season-- though the arrivals of Matthew Roy and Jacob Chychrun should help the Capitals spread the ice time around more evenly and help keep Carlson fresh as the season wears on.

Charlie Lindgren - Surrenders four in loss Lindgren turned aside 28 of 32 shots faced during Saturday's 5-3 home loss to the Devils.

Impact Lindgren was victimized in particular by the Devils' third line of Stefan Noesen, Erik Haula, and Paul Cotter -- who were responsible for three of the five goals the Capitals surrendered. The 30-year-old enters the 2024-25 atop the depth chart after Washington sent Darcy Kuemper to the Los Angeles Kings for Pierre-Luc Dubois in the offseason, but he will need to find his footing in order to fend off Logan Thompson for starts after the latter had a solid showing during the preseason.

Matt Roy - Leaves game with injury Roy won't return to Saturday's contest against the Devils due a lower-body injury.

Impact Roy appeared to catch a rut in the ice and stumbled as a result. The 29-year-old played one shift after that incident, then exited the game. The right-shot blueliner is in the first year of six-year contract signed with the Capitals in July. Expect an update to come on Roy ahead of Washington's next contest against the Golden Knights on Tuesday.
