Alex Ovechkin - Good to play Ovechkin (undisclosed) is set to play in Wednesday's preseason game against New Jersey, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Ovechkin missed the start of training camp due to a minor injury. He had 31 goals and 65 points in 79 regular-season contests last season. Ovechkin is one of the greatest goal scorers in history, but at the age of 39, it's hard to know how much he still has left in the tank for the 2024-25 campaign. If nothing else, the risk of regression is significant.

Logan Thompson - Expected to start Wednesday Thompson is set to start in Wednesday's road preseason game against New Jersey, according to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post.
Impact Thompson had a 25-14-5 record, 2.70 GAA and .908 save percentage in 46 regular-season contests with Vegas in 2023-24. Now with Washington after being acquired in an offseason trade, Thompson is likely to split the goaltending duties fairly evenly with Charlie Lindgren in 2024-25.

Impact Shepard will play the entirety of Tuesday's preseason game. The 28-year-old is one of the AHL's top netminders -- he's won consecutive Calder Cup championships with the Hershey Bears. Shepard will likely be limited to the AHL again this year, barring injury, after Washington traded for Logan Thompson to form a tandem in net with Charlie Lindgren. Shepard was 2-1-1 with an .894 save percentage and a 3.19 GAA in four regular-season appearances with the Capitals in 2023-24.

Impact Per Silber, Ovechkin moved well during Tuesday's session while skating alongside Dylan Strome and Andrew Mangiapane. The 39-year-old Ovechkin has been dealing with a minor injury during training camp, but it appears probable that he will be available for Opening Night on Oct. 12 against the Devils. Impact Sandin should be back on the ice with his teammates soon after missing the start of camp due to a work visa issue. The 24-year-old blueliner produced three goals, 23 points, 79 shots on net, 106 blocked shots and 75 hits across 68 regular-season contests in 2023-24. Sandin will likely occupy a top-four spot and see time on the second power-play unit during the upcoming campaign.
