ImpactMalenstyn's tenacious forechecking help catalyze Nicolas Aube-Kubel's first period goal and the 26-year-old forward now has three points in his last six games -- alongside 18 hits and 11 blocked shots. Malenstyn has become a solid fourth-line player for the Capitals with five goals and 14 points in 54 games in his first full NHL season but the 145th overall pick from the 2016 NHL Entry Draft will need to secure a larger offensive role to generate much fantasy consideration in standard leagues.

The offense isn't likely to last, but it can only help boost the 30-year-old's appeal to other teams looking to add a stay-at-home defenseman should the Capitals emerge as sellers before the March 8 trade deadline.

ImpactDowd, who last played Tuesday, was already expected to miss Washington's contest Saturday, but he's now also been ruled out for Monday's game against Ottawa as well. He has eight goals, 16 points, 58 hits and 57 blocks in 45 outings in 2023-24. Hendrix Lapierre was called up from AHL Hershey in a corresponding move.

T.J. Oshie - Not playing SaturdayOshie (lower body) will not play in Florida on Saturday, per Sammi Silber of The Hockey News.

ImpactOshie won't skate Friday or Saturday and could be out a while as the Capitals are still unsure as to the severity of the injury. Oshie has 10 goals and 18 points in 38 games this season. Look for Tom Wilson to move up to the first line alongside Dylan Strome and Alex Ovechkin, while Sonny Milano could see time on the second power play.
