Gabriel Vilardi - Hopes to keep the doctors away Vilardi set up three goals in a 5-2 win over Calgary in preseason action on Wednesday.

Impact Vilardi is coming off his best point-per-game season (0.77; 36 points, including 22 goals, in 47 games) and is poised for a career season. Vilardi is poised for regular shifts beside star veterans Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele, and that point-per-game average could deliver 65-70 points if he can stay healthy. But he's never played more than 63 games in a season, so have a contingency plan.

Impact Gustafsson is in a position to earn a bottom-six role in the Opening Night lineup, but this injury puts that in jeopardy. Even if the injury isn't serious, the 24-year-old may be held out of Friday's preseason finale in Calgary.

Connor Hellebuyck - Game sharpening into focus Hellebuyck made 17 saves in a 5-2 win over the Flames in preseason action on Wednesday.

Impact Hellebuyck looked a whole lot better than he did Friday night when the wheels came off just 92 seconds into the game. He allowed the first puck past him that night and got the hook after allowing eight in 40 minutes of action. Hellebuyck and the Jets weren't too worried about that game - they had a lot of non-regulars on the ice. They iced more regulars Wednesday and the game reflected that. Mr. Consistency is one of the league's best, and he should nail down a Vezina-quality season.

Nino Niederreiter - Double snipe night Niederreiter scored twice in a 5-2 win over Calgary in preseason action on Wednesday.

Impact The 32-year-old veteran of 887 NHL games is coming off an 18-goal, 34-point season in 2023-24 and is vying for a top-nine role on the Jets. Niederreiter's game is slowing, but he still has a scorer's hands and can be dangerous on the second power-play unit. Put him on your watch list in deep formats - he may be a helpful waiver grab if injuries strike.

Connor Hellebuyck - Slated to start Wednesday Hellebuyck is expected to be between the pipes at home versus Calgary on Wednesday, Mitchell Clinton of the Jets' official site reports.

Impact Hellebuyck has reached the 60-game mark in each of the last three seasons, including posting 37 wins last year on his way to the Vezina Trophy. The 31-year-old backstop figures to be near the top of the list of the NHL games-played list at the end of the season, and should be capable of challenging for the 40-win threshold.
