Danielle Slaton serves as a studio and match analyst for FOX Soccer. Previously, she has called games for FOX Sports’ coverage of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup™, 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup™, Women’s World Cup qualifying, and the U20 and U17 Women’s World Cups. She, along with Lisa Byington and Katie Witham, made history as the first all-female broadcast team to cover one of the five major men’s professional leagues when they called a New England Revolution vs. D.C. United MLS contest in 2018.
Slaton played soccer for the U.S. Women’s National Team from 2000-05, earning a silver medal at the 2000 Olympic Games and a bronze at the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup™. She played professionally in the Women’s United Soccer Association, where she won a championship with the Carolina Courage and was the league defender of the year in 2002. She also played professionally for Olympique Lyonnais in France, and spent her college years at Santa Clara University, where she captained her team to an NCAA championship in 2001. At Santa Clara, Slaton was a three-time All-American and was named the 2001 NCAA Scholar Athlete of the Year.
After her playing career finished, Slaton served as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Northwestern University and earned her master’s degree in sports administration before transitioning into the field of education. She is currently the Director of Community Engagement and Professional Development at Santa Clara University, where she leads programming for educators, counselors and coaches who want to continue to grow and develop in their respective fields.
Slaton is passionate about using sports as a means for social change and serves on the board of directors for the U.S. Soccer Foundation and the Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative. She is a Positive Coaching Alliance trainer and has served as a sports envoy, traveling on behalf of U.S. Soccer and the State Department to places like South Africa, Malaysia, Paraguay, Jordan and India to coach youth about the life lessons that soccer can teach.
Slaton enjoys cooking, gardening, wine and hiking in the hills of northern California. A former florist, she always keeps fresh flowers in her home. She is currently planning her wedding and will marry her fiancé John three weeks before heading to France for FOX Sports’ FIFA Women’s World Cup™ coverage.
