Danny Garcia is a FOX Sports boxing analyst for Premier Boxing Champions shows.
Armed with one of boxing’s best left hooks, "Swift" Garcia is one of the most accomplished boxers in the sport today. He established himself as the consensus 140-pound champion before becoming a two-division champion with a 147-pound world title in 2016. Trained by his father, former boxer Angel Garcia, the Philadelphia-born Garcia is establishing Hall of Fame credentials.
Prior to turning pro, Garcia had an impressive amateur career, with a record of 107-13 and winning the 2005 U.S. under-19 national championship and the 2006 U.S. national amateur title.
Upon turning pro, Garcia won his first 22 fights to set up a March 2012 bout with Mexican legend Erik Morales. Garcia claimed the 140-pound championship by winning a unanimous decision over Morales.
Garcia next took on another champion, Amir Khan, who entered their July 2012 fight in Las Vegas as a 4-to-1 betting favorite. Garcia caught Khan with a tremendous left hook that sent the Englishman to the canvas in the third round. Garcia then knocked Khan down twice more in the fourth round to earn a huge TKO victory and solidify himself as one of the sport’s rising stars.
In an October 2012 rematch with Morales, Garcia connected with a lethal left hook in the fourth round that knocked out the future Hall of Famer.
Garcia defended his titles with a pair of 12-round unanimous-decision victories over Zab Judah and an upset win over Lucas Matthysse in 2013, resulting in the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association naming him the city’s Pro Athlete of the Year.
Garcia continued to rack up impressive wins, winning a majority decision over the formidable Lamont Peterson in April 2015 and then notching a ninth-round TKO over Paulie Malignaggi that August.
In January 2016, Garcia became a two-division champion by defeating former four-division titlist Robert Guerrero via unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBC Welterweight World title. Garcia returned to his native Philadelphia in November 2016, stopping Samuel Vargas in seven rounds.
On March 4, 2017, a crowd of 16,533 packed Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, an arena record for a boxing event, to witness a unification bout between Garcia and WBA titlist Keith Thurman. The action see-sawed throughout but Thurman eked out a split decision win to hand Garcia his first loss.
Garcia returned in February 2018, with a ninth-round KO of former world champion Brandon Rios that earned him "PBC Knockout of the Year" honors.
Garcia took on "Showtime" Shawn Porter on September 8, 2018, for the WBC title vacated by an injured Thurman. It was a tight nip and tuck affair but, after 12 rounds, all three judges scored it for Porter, who handed Garcia only the second defeat of his career.
On April 20, 2019, Garcia bounced back in emphatic fashion, dominating veteran slugger Adrian Granados en route to a seventh-round TKO win in the main event of FOX PBC Fight Night at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Garcia returned to the Barclays Center on Saturday, January 25, 2020, displaying a multiplicity of skills in winning a wide unanimous decision over dangerous southpaw Ivan Redkach.
He currently lives and trains in Philadelphia.
