Joe Goossen works as a FOX Sports analyst calling Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) boxing fights live on FOX.
Goossen works full time as a Southern California-based boxing trainer who rose to prominence guiding some of the sport’s best boxers, including the Ruelas brothers Gabriel and Rafael, to world titles. He is a 2005 Inductee into the California Boxing Hall of Fame.
He has operated the Ten Goose Boxing Gym in Van Nuys for many years and trained some of the best boxers in the world there, including Shane Mosley, Amir Khan, Michael Nunn, Riddick Bowe, Lionel Butler, and Diego Corrales among others. He developed the Ruelas brothers from scratch into world champions. He steadied the talented Joel Casamayor early on in his career and then served as the troubleshooter for Corrales.
He was one of 10 children born into a middle-class family in the San Fernando Valley. He learned to box from his father, Al, an LAPD homicide detective who used to clear the furniture and pair off the brothers in the living room.
His brother Dan Goossen was a longtime boxing promoter and agent who promoted fighters such as Mike Tyson, David Tua, James Toney, Paul Williams, Bernard Hopkins, Lance Whitaker, Joel Casamayor, David Reid and Floyd Mayweather, as well as a longtime agent for Pete Rose and bouncer-turned-actor Mr. T during the height of his career in the 1980s. Older brother Greg Goossen played Major League Baseball from 1965 to 1970, mainly for the New York Mets.
