He made an impact in his short time on the pitch, scoring Kansas City's third goal of the match. After being promoted to the first team from from Sporting Kansas City II to begin the season, Vargas has played a depth role on the Kansas City bench. In Kansas City's first six matches, Vargas has appeared as a substitute three times, spending a total of just 18 minutes on the pitch.
