Impact Townsend recorded four goal contributions in his first season with Luton, his second worst Premier League campaign since the 2013-2014 season. He got off to a decent start, starting eight of the first 11 matches and recorded a goal contribution in three consecutive matches in December. He then started just five of the last 18 matches, recording just one assist over that span. The 32-year-old is under contract until 2026 but may try to make a move to a club staying in the Premier League, a competition he has played in since 2012.

Impact Townsend may have logged only one accurate cross, but it was all he needed to log an assist for a goal scored by Elijah Adebayo. Now with assists in back-to-back games, he seems to have found his rhythm following his short-term signing with Luton Town. It is at least a little promising that Townsend was able to equal his 2021-22 assist tally in 13 fewer appearances.

Signs short-term deal Townsend agreed to terms on a short-term contract with Luton Town through January, the club announced Wednesday.
Impact Townsend missed the entirety of the 2022-23 season due to a long-term knee injury while under contract with Everton. In fact, the midfielder's last competitive match was March 17, 2022, nearly 19 months ago. Townsend did technically go 45 minutes in a U21 contest for Everton in May. Given his lengthy absence, Townsend was unable to secure a new landing spot this offseason but will look to rehabilitate his career with a short-term stay at Luton.
