Charlotte FC sign midfielder Ashley Westwood from Burnley Charlotte FC have completed the signing of midfielder Ashley Westwood from English Championship side Burnley.

Transfers to Charlotte Westwood has signed a two-year contract with the option to extend for an additional season with Charlotte FC after transferring from Burnley, the club announced Saturday.

Impact Westwood tallied seven goals and 20 assists across 162 appearances in all competitions during five-and-a-half Premier League seasons with Burnley, but the 32-year-old hasn't played since suffering an ankle injury in April that required surgery. He is now moving to MLS, where he could plug right into Charlotte's starting lineup in midfield once he recovers from the injury.

Undergoes successful surgery Westwood underwent successful surgery on his ankle and will be out the rest of the season, he revealed via Twitter.

Impact It's now confirmed that Westwood will miss the rest of the season after a somewhat cryptic update from the interim manager Wednesday. It still hasn't been revealed the exact injury, but it's likely a broken ankle that will take months to recover from. Going forward, Jack Cork and Josh Brownhill are expected to man the midfield.
