Impact It's good news for McGinn, who apparently didn't test positive for COVID-19 after being a late absence last Saturday. All signs point to him playing for Scotland and then being in his usual role for Villa's next match which comes Sept. 11 at Chelsea.

Impact Martinez couldn't do anything on the lone goal he conceded, a close-range strike from Ivan Toney early in the first half, but he was solid the rest of the way and barely had to work. The Argentina international has given up four goals while making six saves and keeping one clean sheet through three starts this season.

Impact Ings has been a massive success upfront for Villa, as he has cracked the scoresheet in all three games with two goals and one assist so far. He seems to have a leg up over Ollie Watkins for the starting forward role based on his impressive start to the campaign.

Impact Buendia was active on both sides of the ball, but arguably his finest moment came in the first half, when he scored the equalizer with a great shot from the edge of the box. He only has one goal on two shots thus far, but he has already created five chances while racking up 17 crosses and seven corners.

Impact Watkins didn't play in either of the team's first two matches and while he logged limited minutes, he was active and dangerous. Don't be surprised if his minutes start to increase following the international break, as he scored 14 goals through 37 starts last season for The Villains.

Matt Targett - Slow start to open season Targett has gone a full 90 in just one of the first three matches after dealing with a knock in the preseason.

Impact Targett looked outmatched in the opener against Ismaila Sarr and then was benched in the following game against Newcastle. Maybe out of necessity because of injuries, he returned to the starting XI against Brentford, but it's clear his role is far from locked down despite starting 38 matches last season, mainly because Ashley Young is another viable left-back.

Impact Cash has continued where he left last season and his numbers are almost identical to what he was producing. He's sticking around about three crosses per match to go with limited upside but a nice variety of defensive stats to keep his floor somewhat respectable.
