Impact Bailey likely partied too hard midweek following Champions League qualification. Coming off arguably the best season of his career and definitely of his Villa tenure, he got a much needed break from the squad. After dealing with constant injury problems his first couple seasons, he appeared in 35 matches and started 22 of them in 2023/24, culminating with 10 goals and nine assists, both career highs, even from his time at Bayer Leverkusen.

Impact Martinez likely would've started if the match meant something for Aston Villa, but with Champions League secure, he got the night off. It's been a legendary season for Villa and Martinez was a big part of that after being named the best goalkeeper of 2023 at Ballon d'Or. He'll likely play for Argentina in Copa America next month assuming this injury isn't worse than believed. He closes the Villa season with 34 league starts and eight clean sheets, which is surprisingly fewer than the prior three seasons.
