Suffers muscle injury over break Adams suffered a muscle injury playing for Scotland on Saturday and has to return to his club early.

Impact Adams has struggled to find his form in the early season and a muscle injury is unlikely to help. The hope is that it won't keep him out an extended period, but even then, he was dropped to the bench and didn't play in the loss to Chelsea before the break. In five starts this season he has three shots on goal and no goals.

Impact It's not ideal if both Adams and Danny Ings can't stay fit for a whole season, as while Ings has been impressive as a member of the Saints, Adams has steadily improved over the last two years and should be able to score at least 10 league goals each season if he can stay fit. To make that happen, he needs to keep the groin problem that forced him out of the season finale as a rare occurrence and limit his scoring droughts to less than 13 games. It also wouldn't be surprising to see him serve as the top striker for Scotland at the Euros, where no other options at center-forward have the same top-level experience.
