Excellent in third Spurs season Romero scored five goals and kept seven clean sheets in 33 appearances (all starts) this past season. Impact Romero had arguably the best campaign of his career, highlighted by his five goals, the most among Premier League defenders. Despite making six more appearances than his previous two seasons with Spurs, he also kept more clean sheets (seven) and picked up fewer yellow cards (seven). Unsurprisingly, he picked up a straight red card versus Chelsea in November that cost him three matches, but he was much more disciplined after that incident. After the Copa America this summer with Argentina, Romero will return to Spurs next season with his center-back partner Micky van de Ven.
