Impact Upamecano returned to training individually with a ball and seems on pace to return in November. With any sort of muscular injury there's a high chance for reaggravation so Upamecano won't be rushed back into a major role. In the mean time Matthijs De Ligt will continue alongside Min-Jae Kim in the starting XI.

Ruled out indefinitely Upamecano has been diagnosed with a left hamstring injury that will keep him out of action indefinitely, the club announced Wednesday.

Impact Upamecano's injury, combined with that of Matthijs De Ligt (knee), leaves the club very thin in terms of center-back options. If neither player is available against Mainz on Oct. 21, the club may have to shift Konrad Laimer into a more defensive role or move right-back Noussair Mazraoui into the middle of the backline. At this point, it's hard to imagine Upamecano will be ready to play versus Mainz and could be out even longer.
