Serves well as holding-midfielder Alvarez appeared in 31 games (28 starts), registering one goal on 17 shots and one assist on 12 chances created. Impact Alvarez was brought in to act as a holding-midfielder in the highly defensive tactics of David Moyes, and that was exactly what he did, not being all that great in the attack with his two-goal contributions but providing greatly in the defense with his 42 interceptions, 70 clearances and 80 tackles. This was his first season with the club, and he has four years remaining on his contract despite rumors of a possible move this summer, though it could happen if interested clubs meet West Ham's demands after a disappointing year.
