James Rodriguez - Out for opener Rodriguez will miss Saturday's opener against Southampton because he's in isolation due to COVID-19, according to manager Rafa Benitez.

Impact It's a new manager but the same situation for Everton. Rodriguez being a surprise scratch in press conferences last season was a regular thing and the new campaign opens with the same situation. Everton don't exactly have someone to take Rodriguez's spot and he will force them into a formation change, which won't help since Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin aren't guarantees to start.

Richarlison - Back in Everton training Richarlison returned to training this week and appears ready for Saturday's opener against Southampton.

Impact Richarlison was a regular for Brazil in the Olympics, so there's a chance he doesn't start the opener following the busy schedule which resulted in a gold medal. That said, Everton aren't deep in the attack and he'll be needed when possible, having started at least 32 matches each of the last three seasons.
