Rodrigo Zalazar Martinez - Remains in Schalke Zalazar (foot) remained in Schalke for rehab and is not available for the January training camp, Schalke announced Monday.

Impact Zalazar broke a bone in his foot and is unavailable for the January training camp. The forward was hoping to return in January, but evidently hasn't recovered enough even for the training camp. Zalazar will likely be sidelined until later in 2023 as he continues to recover from the broken bone.

Leo Greiml - Doesn't travel to training camp Greiml (knee) will not travel to Schalke's January training camp, the club announced Monday.

Impact Greiml isn't available for the training camp and isn't expected to return for a Jan. 21 trip to Frankfurt. The defender picked up the knee injury late in October and was always expected to return in February or even later.

Thomas Ouwejan - Available in training camp Ouwejan (knee) is part of the Belek training champ, Schalke announced Monday.

Impact Ouwejan was expected to return for the January training camp and is listed on the roster as expected. The midfielder will hope to get to full fitness before a Jan. 21 trip to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Sepp Van den Berg - Not expected for second half start Van den Berg (ankle) is training individually but is a heavy doubt for the start of the second half of the Bundesliga, Schalke announced.

Impact Van den Berg returning to individual training is a step in the right direction, but the severity of the ankle injury is expected to sideline the young defender early in the second half of the season. Van den Berg saw strong playing time in the first half before the ankle injury he suffered required surgery and sidelined him long-term. Marcin Kaminski and Leo Greiml would both see increased playing time as long as Van den Berg remains sidelined.

Marcin Kaminski - Resumes training Kaminski (laceration) returned to training, Andreas Ernst of Funke Sport reports.

Impact Kaminski suffered a freak calf laceration during training that ruled him out for almost three months. The defender is expected to test his fitness during December friendlies, and remains on pace to return for the beginning of the second half of the Bundesliga.

Alex Kral has seen more playing time in defensive midfield and with both fit Kral seems to be the preferred option ahead of Flick.

Impact Kral has consistently produced since joining Schalke, where he's consistently anchored the midfield. The defensive midfielder has made 19 tackles and 22 clearances as he continuously shuts down opposing attack, something he's faced a lot of with the leaky Schalke team. Kral will likely continue in his role in the starting XI in the second half as Schalke look to avoid relegation.
