Contract negotiations ongoing Mendez's contract with LAFC has run out but the club remains in talks with the player about a potential new contract.

Impact Mendez made 11 MLS appearances (just one start) for LAFC after arriving via trade from Orlando City in July as the 25-year-old is buried down the midfield depth chart for the 2022 champions. He started two games at the World Cup for Ecuador before missing the group stage finale with a yellow card suspension, but he will become a free agent this winter if no new deal is agreed upon with his club.

The 25-year-old Mendez now moves to the West coast with LAFC, where he will further boost the depth of the squad as he will likely be the backup to Ilie Sanchez in defensive midfield.
