GAME LOG

Five clearances in loss Alonso registered two shots (zero on goal) in Sunday's 1-0 defeat versus Espanyol. He also added five clearances.
Impact As has been the trend all season long, Alonso was active defensively but also mustered a few shots on goal. Despite playing as a center-back, the veteran has taken 11 shots and created seven chances in 14 games across LaLiga and the Europa League. When adding that to his defensive numbers, Alonso is a solid option to add value on defense, given his peripheral stats -- even if Celta aren't known for posting many clean sheets.

Impact Alonso had another outstanding performance, this time even adding offensive numbers as he used to do during his entire career as a left-back. The defensive numbers alone put Alonso as a great fantasy asset but he would become one of the safest La Liga picks if he starts putting up two-way stat lines regularly.

Impact Alonso was back in the starting XI on Thursday after suffering a knee edema. The defender played the full 90 during a disappointing loss in Germany. Impact Alonso is dealing with discomfort in his right knee and missed Sunday's 1-1 draw against Villarreal for that reason. The defender will likely be assessed next week to determine if he can return for the next league game against Girona on Sept. 14. That said, if he has to miss some time and the injury turns out to be serious, Carlos Dominguez could start in the back three until he returns.
SEPTEMBER 3 • ROTOWIRE

Impact Unfortunately, only one of Alonso's crosses was considered accurate. The defender was solid in slowing down Alaves, but didn't record big stats in those categories. Alonso should have a bigger presence in Sunday's match against Valencia, who sit in the relegation zone.

Signs with Celta Vigo Alonso has signed with Celta Vigo out of free agency, according to his new club.
Impact Alonso will remain in Spain after being let go by Barcelona at the start of the summer, with the defender having linked up with Celta Vigo for the season. He saw minimal time with Barcelona last campaign, starting in three of his five appearances in La Liga play. However, this doesn't truly show his ability, as the defender is still a solid option in the defense, likely to see decent time this season in a rotational role.
