Ryan Fraser - Gets little playing time this season Fraser had no goal or assists, attempted six shots, created five chances and sent in 13 crosses over eight appearances (three starts) this season.

Impact Fraser had his start of campaign slowed down by injuries and was never able to get into a groove once fully recovered. The midfielder still racked up three consecutive starts in September but never played well and ended up losing playing time gradually until completely disappearing from the rotation. With no perspective on getting playing time and his performances from previous campaigns still fresh on many minds, a transfer out of Tyneside looks very probable for Fraser.

Impact Saint-Maximin started his campaign with a pair of strong performances but then injured his hamstring and missed almost two months of action. The World Cup break was also another factor that prevented the attacker to get into rhythm and there was still another issue that left him off for almost the entire month of April. As a result, Saint-Maximin wasn't even close from being the player that became one of the fan favorites at Tyneside. Despite having his name usually being involved in transfer rumors, it looks like he intends to stay with the Magpies and compete for playing time next season.

Impact Botman came as a highly-touted signing and didn't disappoint at all, putting up some solid numbers and making a great partnership with veteran Fabian Schar. At just 23 years old, the center-back is seen as a centerpiece for the future as Newcastle looks to build an even stronger squad for the upcoming seasons.

It's still uncertain who will be brought for next season and there will be defensive reinforcements but it looks like Schar will be once again in a leading role for this squad.

Impact The summer arrival of Sven Botman pushed Burn out to left-back for this campaign, but the 6-foot-6 defender quickly adjusted to the new position and ended up with his highest usage in a league season since 2017/18, when he won the League One title with Wigan Athletic. Burn featured enough to trigger an automatic clause that adds another year to his contract up through 2024/25.

Matt Targett - Gets relegated as backup Targett created 10 chances, sent in 34 crosses and made 13 tackles, 13 clearances and nine interceptions over 17 appearances (six starts) this season.

Impact Targett began the campaign as a starter but lost momentum with an early injury and Dan Burn's nice performances when given the chance to play as a left-back. Since October, he made the starting XI just twice and the fact that he sustained another physical issue midseason didn't help at all. Now fully fit and with three years left at his contract, Targett will try to get more playing time next season and, if Newcastle is no longer interested in his services, a handful of EPL clubs that will certainly come calling.

The winger is right now at his prime and expectations on him will be even higher for next season as Newcastle prepares for their first Champions League participation in two decades.

Regardless of what will be his role next season, Isak certainly had much more to showcase and a better squad around him will probably make his job even easier.

The Magpies are supposed to have many incoming reinforcements for their first Champions League participation in two decades but the Brazil international will still be essential in the middle of the park for his team to reach even greater heights.

With eight goals over his last eight games, the striker finished the year strong and will definitely be a very important piece on a squad that will face much bigger expectations next season, when they will return to UEFA Champions League after two decades.
