Return before break unlikely Simons (ankle) is unlikely to return in 2024, Leipziger Volkszeitung reports.

Impact Simons is pushing to return before the Christmas break but that currently is expected to be unlikely. The club has admitted they'd like to have him back before a Dec. 20 clash with Bayern Munich, but that would be an exceptionally quick recovery from the ligament injury.

Impact This is unfortunate for Simons, who suffered a serious ligament injury to his ankle. Though surgery is not required yet, the midfielder will likely miss the next few weeks. With his absence, both Arthur Vermeeren and Amadou Haidara will likely play a more attacking position, with Antonio Nusa an option to enter the starting XI for Leipzig.
