Report: Yankees and Mariners have had Brett Gardner talks
By Grey Papke
The Yankees and Mariners have engaged in trade talks centering around Brett Gardner, according to a New York Post report.
The Post’s Joel Sherman says that Gardner has long been a favorite of Seattle GM Jerry Dipoto, and Yankees GM Brian Cashman is open to moving anyone for the right price in the name of payroll flexibility. With that in mind, sources told the Post that Gardner has been discussed in trade talks with the Mariners.
The Yankees are said to be searching for starting pitching, with Seattle’s James Paxton listed by Sherman as a possible piece that may interest New York.
Sherman notes that Cashman and the Yankees are definitely fans of Gardner, but between the need to augment the roster and the need to make some budget adjustments, nobody is untouchable. Cashman also cautions that talks are not far along, so nothing is imminent or serious here.
