Despite 36 saves from Scott Darling, the Carolina Hurricanes fell short to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the shootout, 3-2. Trailing 2-1 going into the third period, Brock McGinn would tie the game for Carolina. In the shootout, Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin would beat Darling to give the Blue Jackets two points in a key Metropolitan Division contest.
