The Pittsburgh Penguins scored three straight goals to earn a key Metropolitan Division win at home over the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-1. After Derek Ryan scored to give Carolina a 1-0 in the second period, Pittsburgh scored two goals in 1:16 to take the lead. Dominik Simon scored his second goal of the season just 49 seconds after Ryan’s tally, before Jean-Sebastien Dea registered the game winning goal. Dea’s marker was the first goal of his NHL career. Casey DeSmith made 34 saves for the Penguins for his second career NHL win.
