The star forward was part of the 2024-25 preseason watch list for the Wooden Award, but he's not a lock to open the season as a starter under Rick Pitino. Said Pitino at St. John's media day Thursday, "Bryce is trying to be good, and I want him to be great. I want him to have a Mamba Mentality, and he doesn't have it." Dillon Mitchell will draw a start Saturday against Towson and could remain in the first unit if Hopkins' mentality doesn't rise to Pitino's standard.
