Myles Rice - Starts in program debut Rice recorded 11 points (3-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, four assists and two steals in 31 minutes during Wednesday's 80-61 win over SIUE.

Impact Rice was immediately thrust into the Hoosiers' starting lineup after starting in all 35 games with Washington State last season. The 6-foot-3 sophomore tallied 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals, making solid contributions on both sides of the ball. Rice looks to play a key role as Indiana's top point guard this season, but with plenty of other scoring options in Mackenzie Mgbako, Malik Reneau and Oumar Ballo, it seems unlikely he mirrors his offensive production from last season.

Mackenzie Mgbako - Signs of breakout season Mgbako had 31 points (13-17 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), nine rebounds, one block and one steal across 28 minutes during Wednesday's 80-61 win over SIUE.

Impact Mgbako averaged a solid, but perhaps unspectacular, 12.2 points and 4.1 rebounds during his freshman season at Indiana, and the five-star freshman closed the year with 24 points as his personal best scoring total. He shattered that total in his 2024-25 debut while also operating far more efficiently. The caliber of opponent certainly must be taken into account, but the high usage and versatile scoring ability shown Wednesday could be a sign a true breakout campaign is on the way for Mgbako.

Kanaan Carlyle - Trying to recover from rib injury Carlyle is trying to recover from a rib injury, per Seth Tow of The Daily Hoosier.

Impact Carlyle suffered bruised ribs from a shot taken during Indiana's exhibition game against Tennessee. He is taking his injury day by by as the Hoosiers prepare for their next game, currently scheduled for Wednesday against SIU-Edwardsville. Their schedule gives Carlyle at least half a week to work with before regular-season action begins for them.

Jordan Rayford - Returns in exhibition game Rayford played six minutes in Friday's exhibition game versus Marian (IN).

This will give him at least one opportunity for game experience going into the opening day and should allow him an opportunity to adapt into the Hoosiers' 2024-25 campaign right off the bat. Galloway's 2023-24 senior season included him averaging career highs in points (10.6), assists (4.6) and steals (1.2) across 31 games, not his career high but quite a lot.

It is unclear whether the 6-foot-5 senior, who averaged 2.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 21 games with Indiana last season will be available for the Hoosiers' season opener against SIU-Edwardsville on Wednesday.

Impact Ballo certainly didn't have his best offensive showing, but he did grab those 11 boards and helped to clog up the paint and force Tennessee to shoot a lot of perimeter shots. New frontcourt teammated Malik Reneau had a great showing with 21 points and eight rebounds. Those two make for arguably the best big-man duo in the Big Ten. Indiana will begin the regular season on Nov. 6 against SIU-Edwardsville.

Malik Reneau - Leads all scorers in exhibition Reneau had a game-high 21 points (8-12 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block in Sunday's exhibition win over Tennessee.

Impact Reneau was efficient and able to contribute in all categories against a strong Tennessee team. He looked comfortable alongside new frontcourt partner Oumar Ballo from Arizona. It was thought the addition of Ballo would result in a drop of production for Reneau, but that might not be the case at all for a player who averaged 15.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists as a sophomore. Indiana begins the regular season on Nov. 6 against SIU-Edwardsville.

Impact Rice certainly looked comfortable with his new team and picked right back up from what he showed in a dazzling freshman campaign with Washington State that saw him average 14.8 points, 3.8 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest. Rice played alongside Kanaan Carlyle in the backcourt in this one, but it could very well be veteran Trey Galloway once the regular season begins, as he was out of this one with a knee injury. Rice will be hoping to prove that he belongs in the discussion of top PG's in the Big Ten.

Impact It has been over 10 months since Rayford was ruled out for Indiana's 2023-24 season for undisclosed reasons. He remains unavailable though, with his return date pushed back to another exhibition game, this time a Nov. 1 matchup scheduled against Marian.

Impact Tucker will be one of three notable Hoosiers missing against Tennessee, joining Trey Galloway and Jakai Newton on the bench. Tucker was previously listed as a game-time decision for Sunday's Charity Exhibition with an undisclosed injury but has clearly been determined to be unable to play against the Volunteers. The freshman forward will have one more opportunity to return in the team's exhibition against Marian this coming Friday before the first game of the regular season.

Jakai Newton - Out Sunday Newton (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's exhibition against Tennessee, per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Impact Newton was previously thought to be a game-time decision for Sunday's Charity Exhibition with a knee injury, and though he was able to log limited minutes in the team's scrimmage earlier in the week, he will be unable to play against the Volunteers. The freshman guard was a former four-star recruit coming out of high school and will have one more chance to return in the team's exhibition against Marian this coming Friday before the regular season opener.

Trey Galloway - Out for exhibition game Galloway (knee) won't play in Sunday's exhibition game against Tenessee, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Impact Galloway continues to recover from a knee injury he suffered at the end of last season. It remains unclear whether the guard will be ready to go for the start of the regular season on Nov. 6. Galloway averaged 10.6 points in 33.4 minutes last year.

The good news is that him recently playing limited minutes suggests he can play, just not at 100 percent. Indiana's head coach Mike Woodson pointed out that Newton has not "fully recovered" going into the team's exhibition game Sunday at Tennessee, where his injury status is expected to be updated.
