Impact Wednesday marked Gilbert's third game with double-digit points and rebounds this season with the 13 rebounds representing a career-high for the 6'4" junior guard. Backcourt-mate Tamin Lipsey returned from a one-game absence but while he struggled, Gilbert excelled on both ends, adding three steals to go along with his impressive offensive output. Gilbert had seen his shot production drop over the first three conference games to just 6.7 per game, but over the last three, he's averaged 13 shots from the floor, shooting 18-for-39 (46.2%). During this most recent stretch, Gilbert has averaged 17.0 points per game, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals in 34.0 minutes of action per contest.

Impact Lipsey did not play in last Saturday's game against TCU due to a shoulder injury. Getting the star point guard back for this matchup with the Wildcats would be huge. Impact Iowa State has a strong argument that they have the best collection of do-it-all guards in the country. Jones started his first game of the season, filling in for the injured Tamin Lipsey, and the Cyclones didn't miss a beat. Jones posted a career-high seven steals while combining with backcourt-mate Keshon Gilbert to score just over 50% of the team's 73 points. Jones is typically the first man off the bench, but has proven when given the opportunity that despite playing third fiddle to Lipsey and Gilbert, he can produce when given the opportunity. The talented sixth man has scored double figures in points six times, posted 11 outings with three or more rebounds, eight with at least three assists and has seven games with three or more steals. As long as Lipsey remains sidelined, Jones has the capability to be a big-time producer for both Iowa State and fantasy lineups.

After all, his injury is more specifically a sprain, a relatively more severe type of injury that could force him to log his first DNP then. Chances are higher that Lipsey's availability becomes a game-time decision.

Impact Gilbert scored 12 of his team-leading 16 points in the second half but the Cyclones came up short in Provo. Iowa State's second-leading scorer had struggled to start Big-12 play, averaging just 6.7 points but he tossed up 15 shots on a night the Cyclones struggled from the field. Also of note is that he posted just one assist which is a season-low total for the junior wing. He has combined this season with point guard Tamin Lipsey to form one of the best backcourts in the country, with each averaging more than 13 points, four rebounds and four assists while also contributing multiple steals on the defensive end in nine of 17 games. Lipsey left Tuesday's game late with a shoulder injury and while early indications are that it's not serious, Gilbert may be asked to step up even more if Lipsey does happen to miss any action.

Tamin Lipsey - Sees dip in production Lipsey closed Saturday's 66-42 victory over Oklahoma State with 17 points (5-12 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 7-8 FT), three rebounds, four assists and five steals over 30 minutes.
Impact Lipsey has been a revelation this season for Iowa State as the only player in the country to average more than 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals, currently ranking second in the nation to FIU's Arturo Dean with 3.4 steals per game. As expected, the start of Big 12 play has brought about a greater challenge for Lipsey and his numbers have taken a hit, mainly due to a four-point effort against Oklahoma to open the conference slate. Since then, while his rebounding and assist totals have dipped slightly, he's picked things back up with 31 points over his last couple of games. Additionally, after beginning conference play with his first two games of the season with less than two thefts, Lipsey rebounded with a five-steal effort Saturday against Oklahoma State.
