Making great progress Coach Tom Izzo said that Akins (foot) is making great progress but probably will miss a couple more weeks, Kyle Austin of MLive.com reports.
Impact Akins underwent surgery in September for a foot injury. There's not reason for the Spartans to rush their sophomore guard at this point so he is good for the long haul. Michigan State opens the regular season against Northern Arizona on Nov. 7, but the team is likely looking at the Nov. 15 matchup with Kentucky as the ideal return date.
