Jaden Akins - Participates in practice Akins participated in practice Thursday and aspires to play Michigan State's opener against Northern Arizona, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact For the first time since his foot surgery in September, Akins was somewhat of a participant in practice. Coach Tom Izzo is erring on the side of caution saying that he needs at least three practices without soreness otherwise he'll hold him out until their matchup with Gonzaga. Atkins struggled his freshman year averaging 3.4 points and 2.4 rebounds in 14.6 across 36 games last season. However, he looks to flip the script this season as he's expected to be in the starting rotation for the 2022-2023 season.

Impact Akins underwent foot surgery in September that was expected to sideline him for four weeks, but the recovery process has since been delayed and he's now targeting a return sometime in early or mid-November. If the sophomore guard is unable to gain medical clearance before the Spartans' season-opener against Northern Arizona on Nov. 7, then A.J. Hoggard, Malik Hall and Tyson Walker would be in line for additional minutes while Akins remains out.
